Atkins House has been providing services for over 34 years to women offenders
to support them in their efforts to lead productive, law-abiding lives for themselves
and their families. We have a residential program, accredited by the American
Correctional Association, that serves approximately 40 women each year. Our HIV/AIDS
Education/Prevention program provides services to approximately 350 women at Atkins
House and at York County Prison.
We have just recently finished the renovations of our building at 305 East King
Street and will be opening it in January, 2011. This will allow us to house another
ten women, bringing the total number of women we can house at any one time to
25.
With the greater number of women we will be serving, we must make some adjustments
to the vacant lot between our residential building and our administrative building.
We have been given some funding for this project, but it will take additional
funds to put in an entrance to the residential building, fence in the back part
of the yard and purchase furniture.
Although we make it possible for you to donate year-round here on the website,
we only conduct a single annual mail campaign to solicit funds. Please consider
making a tax-free donation to support our project.
We are grateful to all our friends in the community who have helped to make Atkins
House a premier program that provides support services for our clients.
Sincerely,
Pamela S. Hoffman,
